2014 BETA
This is a continuation/evolution of our ‘Cielo’ branded wine. After some experimentation in 2012 & 2013, Belinda felt our Semillon fruit showed a lovely affinity to wood, hence the evolution of style/name. 2014 Beta is a blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Semillon fruit and is 100% barrel fermented in mostly old oak. The fruit is processed by variety and clone, 100% whole bunch pressed and naturally settled overnight before being racked to barrel and fermented with naturally occurring yeasts. Most of these barrels are old wood (13 yrs plus), with a small percentage being 1-3 years old ‘cigar barrels’ (265L). It spends around 10 months in oak and 8 months in stainless steel prior to bottling.
2014 BETA 60% Sauvignon Blanc & 40% Semillon A spectrum of stone fruit leaps out of the glass on first approach to this wine, followed closely by the subtle influences of time in oak and on lees. Further on the palate is a wonderful melange of yellow stone fruit, macadamia nut and floral citrus notes. Chewy texture lends a dense, creamy element throughout the palate with soft, balanced acidity consolidating the linear palate and aiding terrific persistence. Screw Cap. Halliday 93 Points $32
